Zoo
A Poem Written by Vivian Ennis 07/24/2000
There were a lot of people at the zoo
Even me and you
The animals looked so cute in their cages
Different types and ages
All the people looked mighty happy
The alligators looked so very snappy
Lots of happy people were at the zoo
Some of the gorillas butts even looked colorful blue
A strange smell was in the air
Animals acted as if they didn't care
A happy look was on the people’s faces
Some of the animals had human traces
Especially the monkeys looked like us
They even ran around in a great big fuss
The monkeys looked right at you
Somehow it made me feel sort of blue
There they were on display
For us to see them everyday
Locked in their cages not to be free
just staring back at you and me
No matter how wrong it was
no one put up any fuss
The zoo was filled with some type of joy
For every little girl and boy
It’s sad it has to be this way
Animals locked up all day
I guess the lesson for us to see
We are lucky to just be free
