A Short Story Rhyme Written By Vivian Ennis 06–26–91

I came to your door but you were not home
So I came again later and you were there alone
I asked to come in but you said no
I said I would only stay a minute and borrow the phone

I made a few calls as we sat on the couch
And looked around at your very nice house
It was filled with treasures that were of sentimental value to you
They all had a place and that one thing was true

The smell of mothballs and coffee filled the air
It reminded me of an old antique shop or an attic at the top of some stairs
The house was clean as clean as could be
It almost didn’t look lived in and was not surprising to me

There were scriptures hung all over the walls
Taken out of the bible for some kind of cause
The look on her face didn’t match the house at all
I tried everything I could not to leave so to stall

I really didn’t want to Leave I hadn’t enough time
There were so many things that were on my mind
As I watched her so carefully place down her coffee
And look at me with a
