In The Silence
A Poem written by Vivian Ennis 06/14/2000
In the silence of the night
We all feel a little fright
Fear of the sounds that silence brings
It even can make our ears ring
We lie and listen in our beds
And somehow the silence confuses our heads
So then after another silent pause
Brings our minds to another cause
We begin to think of love so very real
And now the loneliness that we feel
And wonder in our hearts so deep
Will we ever get to sleep
Our thoughts go here and go there
And our mind turns toward all of our cares
Making it even harder to sleep
As our minds start thinking so very deep
Deeply involved in our heads
While lying there in our beds
We toss and turn around you see
To find a way to be free
Free from all the stuff in our heads
While lying there in our beds
But nighttime sounds of nothingness
Seem only to lead us to more stress
A sleepless night once again
From emotional pain from deep within
That only a silent night can bring
Till morning comes and the birds sing
