Dreams While I’m Awake and Asleep

A Poem written about the 911 attacks on the US soil on Sept 9th 2001
Written by Vivian Ennis 09/18/01

There is nothing I can do about this tragedy so deep
while I lie in bed at night it torments me while I sleep
I have a vision in my mind
about acts of terrorism that are not so kind

It scares me so to dream this way
when I have not yet lived any of my real dreams today
I want to be able to still explore this life
and cast away the thoughts of strife

Still in my mind as the days go by
all I can feel is the need to cry
the thoughts go here and go there
about all of the people who are in despair

All of the lives that are now gone
this tragedy is so very wrong
the people who are left behind to mourn
Feeling that their lives have been torn

By losses that now cannot be replaced
from all of their loved ones whose lives have been erased
one moment in time is all it took
and now we must start another life’s book
